I went to the Pet Expo – part 3

Click Here To EnterYesterday I showed you photos of the bird-man at the Pet Expo. Today is the funny-dog-man!

How does that dog balance like that?

Johnny Peers & The Muttville Comix Show his show was so funny – my mom laughed so hard I was afraid she was going to make me do some of the tricks those dogs did!

He had a bunch of dogs – all rescues from shelters across the country and trained them to do a bunch of stuff –

Scooter-riding dog

like riding a skateboard, pushing a carriage, climbing ladders, sliding down slides (I’ve tried that one and I didn’t like it!), a high wire act and even balancing a dog on the end of a pole – and that’s only part of the show!

Mom took the pix with her flip-phone because she had taken so many pictures earlier she wore the battery out. It was a lot of fun and I would like to see him and the dogs again!

Backwards-sliding dog. Yes, he went down the slide backwards. Yikes!

We had a great time. Tomorrow I’ll tell you about the fashion contest I was in!

Look how high she is! He put her up even higher but by then mom had filled up the memory on her camera phone. She just takes way too many photos!

Love how all the dogs are line up.

I went to the Pet Expo – Part 2

Hey ya’ll! Yesterday I gave you an overview of the Expo. Click Here To EnterIt was fun and I had a good time! Today I want to tell you about Jessie James, the BirdWhisperer.

Jessie James with a Cockatoo.

He talked all about parrots – mainly trying to talk humans out of getting one since they are a very long time commitment. 101_1802 (Parrots can live for 80 years!) He said to never let a bird on your shoulder because if they get scared or fall or something they might take your ear or nose or cheek with them when they fall or fly away.

These 2 cockatoos have no feathers on their bodies.

He also talked about birds who pluck their own feathers because they’re stressed out (I guess it’s kind of like my fellow canines when we constantly lick our paws because we’re upset).

These two cockatoos are rescues and are being cared for by the Peninsula Caged Bird Society

He also told how you can tell if the bird was wild caught (now outlawed) versus hand-raised (a difference in rings on their legs).

I think he said this one was wild-caught - but I can't remember.

I enjoyed his talk a lot but we had to leave early to catch the Cat Agility.

This one is very pretty - too bad I can't remember what breed he is.

Here are some more photos of birds for you to enjoy.

I went to the Pet Expo! part 1

It was a cold and windy day…nope – no story – just a post to tell you about the Pet Expo!

Hampton Roads Convention Center

Hampton Roads Convention Center

It was cold and windy, but thankfully we were inside. We went to Hampton – my first visit there. It took about 30 minutes for us to travel, but I was comfy on my Granmama’s lap.

Me and G!

Me and G!

Mom dropped us off at the door so I wouldn’t get too cold. There were a lot of people and dogs so I was a little scared and refused to walk so mom had to carry me all day! (See how I worked that? She only thought I was scared, but I wasn’t.)

These are cat collars - yuk! - mom looked for a new collar for me but I didn't see one I liked.

First we walked around looking at the vendors – there were lots of folks selling collars, leashes, harness, dog coats and doggie treats.

Just one of many vendors with doggie treats. Yum!

Then we saw some cats, some mice, birds, reptiles and a lot of dogs.

Then we listened to a man talk about birds, ate some lunch, then I was in a fashion contest (I didn’t win – bummer), then watched some flying dogs and some very funny dogs and finally after a long day we went home.

This is a cockatoo.

I have a lot of pix to share so I will be posting them over the next couple of days.

Waiting my turn to show off my wings. You'll have to wait to see me in full regalia!

Enjoy these teasers and I will be back tomorrow to write about the “Bird Whisperer!”

I love the cold sunshine!

The weather here in Virginia is crazy! Two days ago it was 49 degrees outside, then yesterday it snowed and today it is 18 degrees (but sunny!). I think I much prefer Georgia weather to this Virginia rollercoaster ride!enjoying the sun Anyway when we were outside the other day, both Toby and I enjoyed the sun so much – it was so bright we had to keep our eyes closed.enjoying the sun2 After awhile of absorbing the sun’s warm rays, Toby got down from his perch and started following a scent.

I went over to join him and but I couldn’t figure out what it was. It just sort of stopped at the steps. smellsThen Toby sniffed me and said it was me! He said I smelled like a dog and needed a bath. My mom keeps telling me the same thing and I have this feeling that since we are going to the Pet Expo tomorrow, she is going to give me a bath. I’ll do my best to hide from her tonight!its you

fancy dress2In other news, here is part of my costume for the doggy fashion show. Mom just has to put the wings on and I’ll be all set to go! Wish me luck! I’ll be writing a couple of posts about the Expo next week so I will let you know what happens.

snack2Until then, I am Barkingly yours, LadyBird

I went to the doctor.

Well, folks, I was not expecting this. Mom surprised me – I thought we were going to Granmama’s like we do every Saturday.

Let's go to G's!

Let’s go to G’s!

I wondered what was going on when we pulled into the Pet Supplies Plus parking lot – turns out they have a clinic where you can see a doctor for the basics like flea meds and such. PAWS Vet Clinic

I weigh what?

I weigh what?

After we checked in, the nurse lady put me on the scales – I weigh 8 pounds! Then we had to wait behind 2 cats and a westie – I was really nervous.

I'm so nervous.

I’m so nervous.

Then they called my name! Oh, no! What now?

Someone rescue me, please!

Someone rescue me, please!

Next thing I knew I was on a metal table and this man was touching me all over – he looked at my teeth and listened to my heart. Then – oh horrors! – he took a NEEDLE and gave me SHOT!

Oww!

Oww!

Ouch! It hurt! (It was a rabies shot.) And if that wasn’t bad enough the nurses clipped my nails! oh would this never end?

Why do my nails grow so fast!

Why do my nails grow so fast!

And, then, it was over, whew! Mom was carrying me back to our car. When we got settled, mom loved me all over and said I deserved some whipped cream.

Mmmm, Puppy Latte!

Mmmm, Puppy Latte!

So we headed on over to Starbucks and got me a Puppy Latte! All was forgiven as  I slurped down the whipped cream. I love my mom again.

See you next time!
